In the occupied The Netherlands in the Second World War a Jewish female singer gets, after her entire family gets killed by the germans, involved with an underground resitance group. Her mission is clear: infiltrate the german SS by starting a love relationship with the SS- Captain Ludwig Muntze. Slowly she finds out that the worlds is not so black and white.
Zwartboek, or blackbook, has received some international recognition. Also it leadings stars, like actress Carice van Houten, have gotten an opportunity to demonstrate their talents in Hollywood. She can for instance been seen in ‘Valkyrie’ with Tom Cruise, but also soon in the very popular HBO series Game of Thrones. Paul Verhoeven already has some fame in Hollywood, but once again showed his worth. Blackbook received the BAFTA award and the British Indepent Movie Award for best non-English language film. It is one of the best Dutch movies of recent years.
