Best German TV Series
1. Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980-)
A terrific German tv series. Berlin Alexanderplatz can be considered to be the magnum opus of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. It is said he even needed to take cocaine and pills in order to finish it on time. It was a very ambitious project.
It tells the story of young criminal Franz Biberkopf and his troubles in the Berlin Alexanderplatz area.
Not just an all-time German classic, but also a European one. It is also safe to say it is an international film critics favorite. Some consider it to be a film, but it more a mini series of fifteen and a half hour of great cinema divided into 14 parts. If you would consider it to be a film than it probably would be a the longest narrative film ever produced.
It is based on the great German book that goes by the same name written by Alfred Doblin. This German novel has been chosen to be the fourth best German novel of the twentieth century.

2. Stromberg
Just like in the US and UK version, also here the story revolves around an incompetent boss of an insurance company. Although one would expect a duplicate of the Office, this is not true. Indeed, the characters and the concept are the same. But the feel to it is very different. It has gathered so many fans because it has stuck to the typical German sense of humor.
It is now already in its fifth season and is still running. It is one of the most popular tv-shows in the German speaking part of the world.

3. Das Boot Series (1985)
Just as amazing as the film version of Das Boot. Here it also follows the lives and troubles of the crew of a German u-boat. At one point they get confined from the rest of the world, and are continuously attacked by English ships for hours.
It is a very acclaimed tv series. In 1985 it received an Emmy for best television drama series. On IMDb it currently has gotten a 9.2 rating.
Remember thought that if you are looking for a simple action movie or series, you are in the wrong place.
