In the twenties the Spanish film industry around Barcelona had the tendency to greatly exagerate the Spanish temperamentful character. This films were appropiately named ‘Espanoladas’. Spanish feature films continued to be influenced by this for quite a while until it really left it completely behind it in the sixties. Under the totalitarian Franco Spanish movies had to suffer from censureship. This resulted in a limit on creativity and freedom of expression. Directors like Luis Bunuel made movies that caused quite a lot of controversy. He voluntarily went in exile in France and Mexico. After Franco’s death it became easier for Directors to express their creativity. And of course this is what happened. Several new Film institutes were established. Most notably, the Institut de Cinema Catala. Until this time most Spanish movies only knew success within Spanish Borders. From 1975 onwards it slowly started to acquire international recognition. 1. I’m trying to locate either a VHS or DVD of La Cruz de Iberia, a 1990 movie by E.Mencos. Any advice?

    • Hi Chris, we have dome some searching for you as well, but I am afraid it is not available online. It is one of those artworks that have never really been picked up, and because the lack of popularity, the supply of DVD is limited and rare. My best guess would be to contact your local specialist film/records store and see if they can order it for you.
